International Day
This past Monda y during lunchtime, the PMCA Culture Club sponsored
International Day. Students,
faculty and staff contributed food items representing different
cultures and cuisines, and the whole high school joined together in the
gym for an international feast. Many people wore costumes from foreign
countries and brought food representing the land of their origin.
Students paid $2 each for the privilege of sampling the plethora of
exotic dishes, raising $250 for the Senior Mission Trip. No one went away hungry, and those with a sweet tooth had an especially wide variety of options from which to choose.
A
panel of judges sampled the foods prepared by the students, and awarded
grand prizes and runners-up in each of three categories. The winners
this year were:
Main Dish: Grand Prize - Deanna Stock for African Peanut Butter Soup
Runner Up - Korinn Geigel for Empanadas
Side Dish: Grand Prize - Lisa Rodgers for Bulgarian Salad
Runner Up - Lydia Sorkness for Lefsa (Norwegian Pancakes)
Dessert: Jakob Sorkness for Rice Cream with Raspberry Sauce
Runner Up -
Victoria Glover for Medias Lunas de Nueces
(Nut
Crescent Cookies)
Thank you to the Culture Club members and to all who contributed!
The Race is Coming!
Earlier
this week over 4,000 mailers were sent out to families and friends
asking for support in the upcoming Race for Education. We thank
the parents who provided addresses and especially those who assisted
the younger children in preparing their mailers. If your child
has not yet returned his or her sponsor sheet, there is still time to
participate in this important event.
Summer Camps
This
summer PMCA is hosting a series of sports, arts and science camps
for various ages. Brochures detailing these camps were emailed to all school families on Wednesday.
Please note the following changes to the information for the soccer
camp: the correct age group is 5th -8th grade, and the correct dates should be
August 16-20. To print a copy of the brochure, click here.
PMCA Store
Where
can you go to get PMCA tee shirts, totes, hats and decals? The PMCA
store in the main office, that's where! A contest is running right now
to choose a name for the store. Why not stop in and pick up one of the
new PMCA car magnets? Two styles are available for just $3 each. More
merchandise will be arriving soon and suggestions are welcome. Check it
out!
Pre-Kindergartner Rhiannon Baldini was part of a group from her dance school that participated in the Philadelphia
St. Patrick's Day Parade last Sunday. The rainy weather did not dim
the group's enthusiasm,
and
decked in their clear plastic ponchos, they went on to win the Maureen McDade McGrory Award for the Children's
Irish Dance Group Exemplifying the Spirit of Irish Culture through
Traditional Dance.

Next
up for the kids is a parade in Conshohocken later this month.
Congratulations to Rhiannon and her talented fellow dancers!
Senior Mission Trip - Fry Bread and Movie Night

Fry Bread
and Movie Night is tonight!
This event is the major and final fundraiser prior to the trip to
Arizona. The Fry Bread Taco Dinner in the cafe begins at 5:30 pm, and
the movie Smoke Signals will be shown at 7 pm in the auditorium. A
short discussion time will follow the movie. Child care will be
available in the gym during the movie. There is no charge
for admission; a free will offering will be taken. Join us if you
can!
See Parablelooza Next Week!
Next Friday evening, March 26, at 7 pm, PMCA's first, third and fifth graders will present Parablelooza! What's a
Parablelooza?
It’s a way of teaching the truths of the Parables of Jesus through the
combination of a musical and a game show. The students will be earning
points as they learn what scripture teaches about Faith like a Mustard Seed,
the Good Samaritan, the Wise and Foolish Builders, the Lost Sheep and other
parables. Each lesson is accompanied by rollicking songs, crazy games and
scripture quotations. Join us for an evening of music and fun!
ACSI Fine Arts Festival
Congratulations
to the artists and musicians who participated in the ACSI High School
Fine Arts Festival on Tuesday. Over 1,400 students from four states gathered at Lancaster
Bible College, where the beautiful weather greatly enhanced the fine
performances of the day.
In the musical arena, all of our soloists and ensembles scored in the
Excellent and Superior categories, a great blessing after all the hard work they put
in. Students and faculty will be able to enjoy the fruits of the musicians' labors as they perform in a
special chapel next week.

The
tallies are in for the ACSI Visual Arts Competition as well. Most
notable for PMCA were
first place awards to Lydia Sorkness for her oil painting and Molly
Lloyd for
her marker drawing. Receiving superior ratings were works from Elia
Tomer,
Lydia Sorkness, Liz Cronin, Grant Heath and Lindsay Jackson. Many
received
ribbons for excellence. All of the artwork is on display in the
lobby, so check it out the next time you're in the building. Praise God for the many gifts He has given to our students!
Reading Olympics
The Phil-Mont Spine Breakers,
this year’s Reading Olympics Team, cracked open their books and crushed their
competition on Tuesday night. Over 6,000 students competed at Wissahickon Middle
School, answering questions about the 45 books on the list, but our nine eighth
graders rose to the top level. The pressure to do well was intense because the ten
previous PMCA teams were blue ribbon winners. However, The Phil-Mont Spine Breakers
didn’t waver as they continued that noble tradition. Please congratulate these
winning team members: Esahak Arefaine, Elizabeth Cole, Maty Ennis, Doris
Hamilton, Sydney Holts, Joel Kelly, DeShawn McLeod, Sammie Shin and Jordan Sudlow.
