Student Highlight - Girls Take Charge Leadership Day

On Saturday, March 20, eight PMCA juniors attended
the Girls Take Charge Leadership Day at
Villanova University. This program, which was presented by the
Villanova
University Women in Business Society, focused on building leadership
skills for
high school girls. PMCA's group. pictured at right, consisted of
Phoenix Best, Sarah Guy, Charlotte Van Dyken, Yeriel Paulin, Claar
Ennis, Jenn Khoo, Sarah Ghattas and Victoria Glover. The girls enjoyed
their day engaging in hands-on sessions
and coaching from successful woman leaders. One commented on how
inspiring the speakers
were. Another enjoyed learning about the women leaders of our times and
felt it
was especially uplifting to hear how some of them overcame hard times
and
instead of being held back, used their adversity to move forward
and
become successful leaders. Perhaps the best response was from the girl
who said
she came out thinking she needed to take some initiative at school and
maybe
start a club or do a fundraiser. Watch out, Phil-Mont, as these girls
begin to
“take charge.”
Race Update
Yellow
mailers with contributions to the Race for Education have begun to
arrive in the daily mail, and to date we have received over $8,000! Thank you
to everyone who is supporting this endeavor. On April 9, the Friday
after Easter break, we will send out a form requesting parent
volunteers in specific areas for Race Day. Please be watching for it
and make your plans to join us for the morning on April 23!
Summer Camps
New camps are still being added to the line-up for this summer, and updated brochures are available on the PMCA website. To see the latest additions, click here.
PMCA Store
It's official - the new PMCA Spirit Store will be called The Falcon's Nest.
Congratulations to those who submitted this suggestion - Evan Steiger,
Zach Dolton, Seth Brandenburg and Mr. Eimer! The store is open for
business in the main office and more
merchandise will be arriving soon. Check it
out!
Guidance News from Mrs. Furcola
Every year I compile a list of
summer opportunities for academics or service based on information that is sent
to my office. There are many programs available, especially, but not
exclusively, for high school students. Please click here to read that
information. Many of the larger colleges or universities have some kind of
summer offering for high school students. You can access that information by
going to the various websites.
Pennies for Patients
The
results are in for this year’s Pennies for Patients collection for the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society. Seven classes brought in over $100 each: 10A - $110.29,
6B - $118.72, Kindergarten - $150.15, 5th Grade - $173.50, 2nd
Grade - $235.96, 4th Grade - $237.46 and the winner, 3rd
Grade - $481.86. The third graders will be receiving a pasta luncheon from
Olive Garden after Easter break. This year’s total from all classes was
$2,122.93, an increase of over $500 from last year's total! Thanks to everyone who supported this worthy cause.
See Parablelooza! Tonight!
Tonight at 7 pm, PMCA's first, third and fifth graders will present Parablelooza! What's a Parablelooza? It’s a way of teaching the truths of the Parables of Jesus through the
combination of a musical and a game show. The students will be earning
points as they learn what scripture teaches about Faith like a Mustard Seed,
the Good Samaritan, the Wise and Foolish Builders, the Lost Sheep and other
parables. Each lesson is accompanied by rollicking songs, crazy games and
scripture quotations. Join us for an evening of music and fun!
Senior Mission Trip
Please
be in prayer for our 10 senior missionaries and their chaperones as
they gather bright and early tom orrow morning for the trip to the
airport and then on to Arizona for their week-long
stay at the San Carlos Apache Reservation. Praise the Lord with them
that their financial goals have been met and that the trip is now fully
funded! Pray for a smooth flight, good weather and many opportunities
for witness as the students work with Bible studies and minister in
other ways to the Native American community. Pray that they would be
good representatives of PMCA, but more importantly, that they would
dedicate all their work this week to the glory of God.
PMCA Fine Arts Festival
Coming this May 20-22 is the much
anticipated annual Phil-Mont Fine Arts Festival, an opportunity for the students
of PMCA to gather to share their talents with one another and with our greater
community. Art, music, dance, drama, food and fine fellowship are the hallmarks
of this annual Spring event that brings out hundreds of folks and reminds us
what a precious treasure God has given to us in this special place.
Join us as we weave this year's theme, Rhythms of Africa, into the art displayed and the performances presented. We
welcome parents and friends who have a special interest in African culture to display objects,
present an experience or share in the planning of this celebration of African culture and art. Please contact Matt Stemler if you'd like to help.
