Update on PMCA
Uniforms
Exciting
changes
are in the works to help make uniform shopping more manageable for
school
families. Letters are being sent home with report cards explaining a
number of
new options, or you can click here
to read the information now.
One important change is the
addition of Lands' End as an approved vendor, effective
immediately. In order to check out the items available, click here
to go to their website.
You'll see that there is a special promotion
valid today (4/16) through Monday (4/19) giving you
25% off on any
purchase, including uniforms, and free shipping
as well! To tak e
advantage of this, click on 'start shopping' under 'shop online'
at the
bottom of the page. At
the bottom of the new page, under 'specialty
shops', click on 'school uniforms'. Once you select a specific uniform
item to look at, you'll be given the opportunity to enter the PMCA
preferred school number (900136698). This will allow you to view or
print the entire list of PMCA uniform items that can
be purchased through Lands' End. Once you've made your selections of
uniforms or any other regularly priced Lands' End items, go to the
checkout area. Enter the Promotion Code LESU and Pin 1084 in the spaces
indicated to get your discount. Happy shopping!
Race
Update
The Race for
Education is coming up next Friday and it's not too late
to return your volunteer form. If you need a copy, just click here. A letter with some
specific guidelines for next Friday was emailed to all parents earlier
today.
Please read it carefully.
NHS Gym Night
PMCA's
National Honor Society is holding a Gym Night tonight from 7-9 pm which
is open to all high school students. The cost is $3 for individuals, or
$2 each for tournament teams of 5 people. Money raised will go to
benefit Esperanza Healthcare, a clinic serving the Latino
community.
The evening will include open gym time followed by volleyball and
dodgeball tournaments. Snacks and drinks will be sold.

Report Cards
Report
cards are being sent home today with all high school
students. Middle school report cards will go home on Monday, and first
through fifth graders will receive their report cards
next Wednesday. Included in the report card envelope for
first through ninth graders is a report outlining your child's scores
on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills which were given in early
March. Please
read the explanatory letter from Mrs. Furcola and review the scores
carefully.
The
upcoming retirement of Mr. John Davis means that PMCA is left without a
Facilities Manager. We are looking to fill this position as quickly as
possible, so that John's successor can have the
benefit of working with him in order to learn the
idiosyncracies of the Hillcrest facility. A job description has been
developed which is available on the PMCA website or by clicking here.
If you know of someone who meets the qualifications and is interested
in this position, please encourage him to contact Al
Chapman.
John
Davis Retires

Mr. John Davis, PMCA Facilities Manager for 20
years, has announced his retirement as of May 28.
John began his current service at PMCA in 1990.
Prior to becoming an employee, he was a school
parent and served two terms as a member of the PMCA School Board.
His
commitment to the service of the Lord and the advancement of the
mission at Phil-Mont has been demonstrated on multiple campuses and
through many faculty, staff, and student lives. His
effectiveness in facility management, his winsome spirit, and his
devotion to Christ in word and deed are hallmarks of his time here.
He will be missed.
Please
join us in giving thanks to God for John’s service at PMCA and offer
prayers for God’s leading to next steps for both him and the Academy. A
special time for the whole PMCA family to honor John for his years of
service to us is being planned. More details will be sent to you soon.
Student
Highlight
On the first
day of Easter break, when everyone was out en joying the
lovely weather, sophomore Jeremy
Bierema was
back at PMCA bright and early taking a three hour math exam. It is
called the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, and it isgiven
to those students who had exceptional scores on the American
Math Competiton test back in February. We have just received word that
Jeremy's performance on the AIME test has qualified him to go on to the
next level and take the USA
Junior Math Olympiad, an honor given to only about 500 of the 12,000
AIME
participants. In fact, Jeremy was one of only 8 students 10th grade or
below in the state of PA to qualify! This next test is given over 2
days, and is nine hours long!
Congratulations to Jeremy for following in the footsteps of his
esteemed math teacher father!

Fine Arts Festival Update
Do you like to tell stories? Do
you tend to captivate children with expression and inflection
when you read to
them? We would love for you to make use of
these gifts in the ‘Story
Telling Hut’ that will be set up on Saturday, May 22 at
the Fine Arts Festival.
Maybe your gift
is dance
and rhythm. We welcome you to put them to use as we weave this year’s
theme, “Rhythms of Africa” into the art made and performances
experienced.
Parents and friends who have a special interest in Africa as a culture
are
invited to display objects, present an experience or share in the
planning of
this celebration of African culture and art. Please contact Matt
Stemler if you'd like to be a part of this event.
