Race for Education

Despite a nip in the air, last Friday dawned sunny and bright - perfect weather for the running of PMCA's Fourth Annual Race for Education. A number of members of the senior class volunteered to help set up lanes and tables outside, to construct the balloon arch and to man the music tent. Dozens of parents helped to give out water to the runners, keep everyone on the course and cheer on the racers. O'Neill's Catering provided a hot dog and hamburger lunch for all of the students, faculty and staff, and during the last race, the hillside was covered with elementary children enjoying the cookout while watching the older students race.

Both IT Director David Askey and PMCA parent Ken Sawyer were armed with cameras and snapped hundreds of pictures. A slide show may be viewed by clicking here. On Friday afternoon, May 28, Race Awards will be given out to winners chosen from among the students submitting sponsor names, and also to the class with the highest average number of laps.

We are thankful to all who helped out, in whatever capacity, and we praise the Lord that this event has  raised over $35,000 to this point to help us continue to provide a quality Christ-centered education to our students. If you would like a list of the people who sponsored your child so that you can send thank you notes, please contact Nancy Stemler.

Job Opportunity

The upcoming retirement of Mr. John Davis means that PMCA is left without a Facilities Manager. We are looking to fill this position as quickly as possible, so that John's successor can have the benefit of working with him in order to learn the idiosyncracies of the Hillcrest facility. A job description has been developed which is available on the PMCA website or by clicking here. If you know of someone who meets the qualifications and is interested in this position, please encourage him to contact Al Chapman

Student Highlight - National Mythology Exam

Fifteen eighth graders took up the challenge of voluntarily meeting weekly to study Greek mythology and parts of the Odyssey. The first week of March the third-ever Mythology Club took the National Mythology Exam along with over 10,000 other students from the US, Canada, and Australia.

The results have just arrived. Overall, only 41% of participants earned a medal. However at PMCA, 80% scored high enough to earn this honor, the most in Phil-Mont history!

Congratulations to Jana Goodman who scored a 90% on the exam; Micah Baldez, Rachel DiBenedetto and Peter Sorkness who earned a 92%; and Kayin Scanterbury and DeShawn McLeod who both earned a 94%. They each received bronze medals during chapel on Tuesday.

We also have three mythology experts who won a silver medal:
Doris Hamilton and Joel Kelly ended with a 96% and Matthew Kelly ha
d an amazing 98%.

The Athena Gold Award of Excellence is given for a perfect score on the National Mythology exam. And three incredible students ruled Mythology Club like Zeus, Hades and Poseideon, and like Athena demonstrated wisdom and cunning as they earned a perfect score. Congratulations to Sammie Shin, Jordan Sudlow, and Zach Dolton!
