Junior/Senior Banquet

Last Friday evening, PMCA's Juniors and Seniors arrayed themselves in tuxedos, formal dresses, flowers, jewels, elaborate hairdos and more as they gathered at the elegant Union League in downtown Philadelphia for the annual Junior-Senior banquet.

Senior class parent Mr. Gerald Glover was set up to take the formal poses

of the couples as they arrived, and

many took advantage of his expertise while

others mingled and enjoyed the beautiful building with its many portraits.

Once the meal was over, the dancing began. Many a pair of shoes was kicked underneath a table while the girls danced barefoot. Some of the gentlemen took to the floor for some solo break dancing, but most of the time the dance area was packed. Clearly, a wonderful evening was had by all!

Senior Mission Trip Presentation

Join us tonight at 7:30 pm in the Ha
mel Auditorium, to learn about the experiences of the Senior Mission Team at the San Carlos Apache Reservation during their recent mission trip.

Senior Class Reminder

Each year a PMCA parent prepares a collage with pictures of all of the graduating seniors. This collage is displayed at the graduation breakfast, during graduation, and back at PMCA through Back to School Nights. Each senior must provide a photo, 4x6" or smaller. This may be a cap and gown photo, or any other  appropriate
recent photo, candid or formal. Please be sure these photos reach Mrs. Stemler in the office by next Tuesday, May 11.

FFPM News

Families for Phil-Mont will hold a planning meeting on Thursday, May 20 from 9:00-10:30 am in the elementary library. Officers will be elected for next year.

Next Thursday, May 13 is the final uniform consignment shop for the school year. Watch for details about late summer consignment shops.

Scottish Dancing

On Wednesday, May 26, the Campbell School of Highland Dancing will present a fundraiser recital at PMCA. The Washington Memorial Pipe Band also will  perform, and light refreshments will be served. Eighth grader Maty Ennis has been a dancer at the Campbell School since the age of four. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for a family of four or more. One  dollar from each ticket goes to PMCA, while the remaining four dollars goes to the dance school to help send a group to compete in Scotland this coming summer. Tickets may be purchased through Maty Ennis or Gwyn Ennis, who can be reached at 215-887-7650.

Student Highlight - Christine Bierema

In the March issue of the Falcon Flyer, we congratulated Christine Bierema on being named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an honor achieved by fewer than 1% of the nation's high school seniors.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Christine has been selected as the winner of a Scholarship awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Only 2,500 of these scholarships are awarded. Christine will be attending Amherst College and hopes to become a physician.

Field Day

Elementary Field Day is coming up on Friday morning, May 21.  Parent volunteers still are needed to help run the events that make up Field Day, as well as some to man the tables where ice water is served. Mr. DeHeer will be holding a meeting with all volunteers next Friday, May 14 at 8 am in the Athletic Office. Please contact Bill DeHeer if you're able to help out, and let him know whether you'll be at the meeting.

John Davis Reception

The PMCA family is invited to an Open House Reception to honor Mr. John Davis as he retires after 20 years of serving the faculty, staff and students of PMCA. The reception will take place on Tuesday evening, May 25 from 6-8 pm. Hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served. Click here to view the invitation.

PMCA Fine Arts Festival Update

Will Phil-Mont have rhythm on May 22? Rhythms of Africa is our theme, so if you have objects to display, stories to tell, rhythms to share, or dances to teach, please contact Matt Stemler. If you want to help out, we are looking for parents who will be around on May 22 to help monitor some of the events. In addition, Elementary and Middle School Art Teacher Stephanie Rosenblum can use set-up assistance between now and the festival. If you’d like to help in this way, please contact Stephanie.

Come and enjoy the Middle School Concert on May 20, the High School Concert on May 21 and celebrate the Fine Arts throughout the day on Saturday May 22. The events on Saturday include: Family Theatre Productions - African tales from West Africa and the Bantu peoples, Shakespeare Scenes, Contemporary One acts, Improvisation and Musical Extravaganza Performances and the Elementary Choirs (Grades K,1,2 and 3,4,5). See also the Elementary, Middle & High School Soloists, Ensembles, and Band performances.

Bring family and friends and enjoy the Story Telling Hut, art projects and face painting. In addition, there is always lots of good food!

Note to elementary parents: The correct date for the permission slip sent home to parents should be Saturday, May 22.
