Fine Arts Festival

The Spring Fine Arts Festival is less than a week away. Next Thursday evening, May 20, at 7:30, the three day event kicks off with the Middle School Concert, featuring the Middle School Band and Choir. The displays of artwork by students at all grade levels will be ready for viewing as well.

On Friday at 7:30, the high school students take their turn for a concert. This one will include the High School Concert Band and Choir, the Jazz Band and the new Men's A Cappella group.

Saturday's events begin at 10:00 am, and a full slate of drama, music, art classes, and children's activities is planned. Click here to see a complete schedule of Saturday's events. Bring family and friends and enjoy the Story Telling Hut, art projects and face painting. In addition, there is always lots of good food!

Elementary and Middle School Art Teacher Stephanie Rosenblum is still in need of set-up assistance between now and the festival. If you’d like to help in this way, please click here to contact her. In addition, parent volunteers are needed for Saturday to help guide visitors and to supervise students as they run activities. To assist in one of these areas, please contact Matt Stemler.

2010-11 Calendar Change

Last week the decision was made to make one change to the calendar for the 2010-2011 school year. Friday, April 15 will be a day off for students rather than a noon dismissal day. Faculty and staff will have a morning in-service on that day. Please make a note of this change.

Camp Registrations

It's not too early to register for PMCA Summer Camps, in fact a number of them begin as early as June 21. You can click here to see the full list. Options are available for students at all grade levels and adults as well. Contact the individual instructor for more information or to register.

Scottish Dancing

On Wednesday, May 26, the Campbell School of Highland Dancing will present a fundraiser recital at PMCA. The Washington Memorial Pipe Band also will  perform, and light refreshments will be served. One  dollar from each ticket goes to PMCA, while the remaining four dollars goes to the dance school to help send a group to compete in Scotland this coming summer. Tickets may be purchased through Maty Ennis or Gwyn Ennis, who can be reached at 215-887-7650.

Middle School Upcoming Events

The last month of the school year is a very busy time in the Middle School, and parents are encouraged to take note of upcoming activities. Last Friday, the 8th graders participated in the traditional Medieval Feast. Next Wednesday, May 19, is the first of two Middle School trip days. The sixth graders will go to Valley Forge and the seventh graders will visit a Japanese Tea House. After spending time at PMCA with a Christian Athlete Ministry program, the eighth graders will take a Wissahickon hike. The Middle School Concert is the first major feature of the Fine Arts Festival next Thursday, May 20 at 7:30 pm. Field Trip Day number two comes up on Friday, June 4. This time sixth graders will hike the Wissahickon, the seventh graders will participate in a Civil War Day and the eight grade will visit Glencairn Museum and the Art Museum. Finally, the last week of school features a Talent Show on Wednesday, June 9 and an Awards Assembly on Thursday, June 10 at 8 am.

Field Day

Field Day is next Friday! The elementary students are looking forward eagerly to the competition. Parents who are coming to help out with the Field Day events should plan to meet with Mr. DeHeer at 8:30 in the gym. First through fifth grade students should wear a blue or white tee shirt according to their team designation, and applying sunscreen to your child before school is  suggested. After the  competitions and lunch, the elementary students will gather outside for popsicles and the announcement of winners. The
rain date for this event is Monday, May 24. Order forms for the hoagie lunch are being sent home with all elementary students today. The form and payment should be returned on Monday.

John Davis Reception

The PMCA family is invited to an Open House Reception to honor Mr. John Davis as he retires after 20 years of serving the faculty, staff and students of PMCA. The reception will take place on Tuesday evening, May 25 from 6-8 pm. Hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served. Click here to view the invitation. If you would like to help provide refreshments, please email Renée Asher.

Student Highlight - Interact Project

This past Saturday, Interact members volunteered at the Monastery Complex in nearby Fairmount Park for "LOVE your park day." They spent most of the morning weeding and planting flowers, and of course, enjoying each other's company! Below are Interact members Curtis Glover, Alex Dimitri, Sarah Asher, Elia Tomer, Victoria Glover and Christine Bierema with faculty advisor Mrs. Gail Frey.
