Fine Arts Festival

Last week's Spring Fine Arts Festival was a resounding success! Concerts on Thursday and Friday nights showcased a host of talented singers and musicians performing music ranging from classical to jazz to African-inspired pieces to the Beach Boys. Equally impressive were the displays of student artwork throughout the building. Students from Pre-K through 12th grade produced works representing every imaginable artistic medium.

On Saturday the halls were packed as performers appeared not just on the main auditorium stage but in smaller venues in the cafeteria and front foyer as well, offering spectators a choice of Shakespeare, comedy, Elementary ensembles and soloists, 60's Motown music and dance, African tales, improvisations and much more!

Mrs. Carradice's room was transformed into an amazing Story Telling Hut complete with authentic African wall hangings, brightly painted shields and tree trunk stools. A series of guest readers entertained a steady stream of young listeners under the watchful eyes of the Festival Snake, who rested there when not being paraded through the halls. Talented face painters created colorful animals and tribal patterns, while the dozens of students and adults packed the art room to try their talents at various projects. All in all it was a wonderful weekend of celebrating the gifts and talents God has given to the students at PMCA. Make plans now to join us next May for Celtic Dreams: The Worlds of Ireland and Scotland!

Thank you to everyone who helped out in many ways at the Open House honoring John Davis. The evening was a wonderful testimony to John's time at PMCA and his godly influence on so many over the years.

Sports Update - Track and Field

Fourteen Phil-Mont Falcon track & field athletes nested under a canopy last weekend when they were not competing in the PIAA District One Championships. On Friday they took shelter from the sun, on Saturday from the wind and rain. Regardless of the weather conditions, this was the time to show what was gained by months of preparation and training. This was the time to finish strong. Happily, the coaching staff is proud to report that ALL FOURTEEN of our Falcons earned medals and team points at this important meet. Here are their award-winning events: Girls 4 X 800m relay ... Christine Bierema, Sarah Ghattas, Maddie Romig and Claar Ennis; Boys 4 X 800m relay ... Stefan  Johnson, Steve Koffel, Brian Roberts and Andrew Maienshein; Shot Put and Discus ... Alex Dimitri;  Long Jump ... Charlotte VanDyken and Curtis Glover; Triple Jump ... Curtis Glover; 200m ... Chris Sanford; 400m ... Adam McNichol; 1600m ... Andrew Maienshein; 3200m ... Claar Ennis and Jon Shope. Our top three finishers were Alex Dimitri (3rd in Discus), Charlotte VanDyken (2nd in Long Jump) and Jon Shope (1st in 3200m)!

Jon Shope has also achieved the honor of representing PMCA and District One at the State Championship Meet in Shippensburg tomorrow. He won his event at districts with a state-qualifying, school-record-setting time of 9:47! Godspeed, Jon, and congratulations to one and all!

Field Day

Last Friday the first through fifth graders took to the field for the annual competition of Blue vs. White at Field Day. The competition was fierce but friendly, and for the first time in a number of years, the white team emerged victorious at the end of the morning. Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to help run the various events and who came to cheer on the participants; you helped make this a memorable day for the kids!
