2011 Graduation
Update
Next
year, for the first time, PMCA will be holding its Commencement
Exercises on a Saturday. We have recently learned that New Covenant
Church will not be available to us on the Friday night when graduation
was to have taken place, so the decision was made to hold the
graduation ceremony on Saturday,
June 11, 2011 at 1 pm at New Covenant.
Choosing
to schedule graduation in this way means that we do not need to change
the school calendar for the underclassmen and younger students. The
graduation breakfast for seniors, their parents and faculty and staff
will be held on Friday, June 10 at 8 am at New Covenant as originally
envisioned. We hope that this change will prove to be a positive one,
and that this new schedule is one which we will be able to follow for
the forseeable future.
Uniform
Try-On
A
representative from Lands' End will
be coming to PMCA for a uniform fitting event. This is the best way to
get an accurate picture of your
child's needs as far as sizes go. You may place orders directly at the
time of the event or order from Lands'
End online or through Lands' End kiosk at Sears and be sure of a good
fit. As soon as the date and time are finalized, we will notify all
school families via email.
Senior Send Off
The class of 2010, their parents, and faculty members are invited to
the Senior Send Off, Saturday, August 14, from 4-8 pm at the Chapman
home. Come for a barbecue, frisbee, volleyball, wiffleball and a chance
to gather with friends before everyone leaves for college. Hot dogs and
hamburgers will be provided; bring a side dish to share.
Consignment Shop
Families
for Phil-Mont is sponsoring two Uniform
Consignment Shops
later this summer The first is Thursday, July 29 and the second is
Thursday, August 5. Both will take place from 3-6 pm in the locker room
area. If you have items to sell, please bring them to the school
office, laundered and labeled, by Monday, July 26. We will accept
graduation gowns and caps for sale as well; these should not be
laundered.
The next issue of the News You
Can Use will be sent out on or about August 6. Please be watching for
it.
In addition, a mailing will go out to all school families with
important information about Back to School activities and policies.
This will be sent out early in August. The summer issue of the Signet
should be arriving in your mailbox soon.
Concerts
on the Hill - Dan Delaney
This
summer for the first time, PMCA will be offering a pair of
evening Concerts on the Hill on July 31 at 7:30 pm and August 20 at 7
pm. A free will offering
will be taken to help defray costs. This is a great
opportunity to pack a
picnic, find a seat on the hill behind
the school, and
enjoy some good music in the open air.
The Saturday, July 31 concert
features
Dan Delaney. Mr. Delaney is an
accomplished cellist who performs in classical, mus ic theatre and
jazz and rock settings.
He is cellist
for the award-winning musical Hot
Mess in Manhattan
and performs regularly throughout the Philadelphia area as a recital
artist and chamber musician. Mr. Delaney will be joined at the concert
by violinist Shelley Weiss, a widely acclaimed performer
who plays and teaches in Philadelphia.
She was the 2007 Florida State Fiddle Champion, and works in both
classical and folk genres. In this, their first concert together, the
two
will present an eclectic mix of classical
duos, traditional folk tunes and fiddle tunes.
Concerts on the
Hill - Chip and Annie Mergott
The
second concert in PMCA's summer series is scheduled for Friday, August
20 at 7 pm. This concert features
Chip and Annie
Mergott, singer-songwriters in
the folk tradition. Chip and Annie are pictured at left with son Eli.
Annie
and Chip's duo performances include mostly original tunes, but are
sprinkled with gospel songs, duets, and a few eclectic cover songs as
well. Their music can be described as "Fun Family Folk" - songs for
parents to enjoy with their children. Both have written and recorded
numerous songs individually as well as
together. Chip also has several
solo guitar recordings to his credit. The pair has performed
with a
number of well known folk musicians and has appeared in venues across
eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Their interactive children's show,
for ages 1 through 9 is a popular attraction. Their PMCA concert
promises to be an enjoyable family event.
Race for
Education Update
Race
for Education contributions have continued to come in, with the current
total standing at $41,744. Amounts as high as $1,000 have
been received, but even the smallest contributions are greatly
appreciated. At
the end of the school year, one of our first graders, Ifanyi Oliver,
came to the office
with a note from his teacher and a one dollar bill. The note explained
that Ifanyi had chosen to forego a snack after school and instead
was donating his dollar to the Race "because that is more
important." We praise the Lord for this
evidence of His grace in the lives of our students!
