FFPM
Italian Dinner and Basketball
Plan now to join us next Friday, February 10,
for an evening of basketball and some fine food! FFPM will be hosting
its Annual Italian Dinner
from 5:30-7:30 pm. The cost is just $5 per person or $20 per family,
and proceeds will
aid FFPM's
new fundraiser project - School Fire Doors.
We do have a need for several more Caesar salads,
drinks and pans of lasagna or ziti. We could also use a few more
volunteers for set up, clean up and serving. If
you're able to help in any of these areas, please email Renee
Blackburn or call this
year's
coordinator, Gwyn Ennis, at 215-887-7650. Gwyn
can answer any questions you may have as well.

The FFPM Uniform
Consignment Shop
will be open for business during the hours of the dinner. Please contact Stacey
Parker-Johnson with questions.
All
three of our High School
Basketball teams
have home games against Girard, beginning with the Varsity Girls at 4:00,
followed by the JV Boys at 5:30 and the Varsity Boys at 7:00. Between
the two boys' games, we will be holding a ceremony to honor our Senior
winter athletes. In addition, Bill DeHeer and the fifth graders are
planning a tinikling demonstration at halftime of the Boys Varsity
game, and maybe one at halftime of the JV game as well. If you are the
parent of a fifth grader, please be sure to email Bill
DeHeer and let him know whether your child will be attending.
Luncheon Thank You
The
faculty and staff would like to thank all of the parents who
contributed to the wonderful luncheon we enjoyed during our in-service
time last week. Thank you especially to Gwyn and Dave Ennis, who
provided the
grilled chicken caesar wraps and to Suzy Kreines and
Nancy Scholtz
who baked delicious cookies for our dessert! You are all most
appreciated!
Falcon Flyer
The
next edition of the Falcon
Flyer will be published on Wednesday, February
8.
Parents will be sent an email with a link to the web page where it will
be located. We encourage everyone to read and enjoy this publication.
Financial Aid Reminder
If you
wish to
apply for Financial Aid for the 2012-13
school year, please click here for
the FACTS Tuition Aid
website. In order to
receive priority consideration, your online application must be
submitted no
later than Friday, February 17.
Reenrollment Changes
Because
we value your commitment to us, we are making it easier for you to
remain a
member of the PMCA community by eliminating the annual reenrollment
process. From
now on, students who are enrolled in PMCA will stay enrolled until they
graduate. No more reenrollment forms to fill out! No more deposits or
late
fees! We will send an online link later in the spring so that
you can update certain information for
us.
We hope and
expect that all of
our current
families will desire to remain a part of the Phil-Mont family, but we
understand
that sometimes there are issues that prevent this from happening. If
for some
reason you feel that you will not be able to keep your child at PMCA
next year,
we ask that you contact Rosanna Lu or Phil
VanVeldhuizen in the Admissions
Department as soon as possible to discuss your situation with them.
Prayer Request from Mr. Beebe, Head of School
I write to the PMCA families to ask that
you might include our family in your prayers over these next days and
weeks.
Our daughter Susan, living in Ohio, went home from the hospital
last Friday night after 3 days of whirlwind testing, neurologists, surgeons and
OB doctors. An MRI on Wednesday revealed she has a brain tumor about
the size of a racquetball.
Susan and Ben have decided to forego the
biopsy procedure altogether since it will not really alter the fact that the
tumor must come out due to size and the presenting issues. The high-risk OB
team (she is 15 weeks pregnant) is confident that this is a good time for her
baby to undergo surgery with her, so they have scheduled Susan's surgery date
for Tuesday Feb 7. Kathy & I were able to be with them last week while
Susan was hospitalized for the diagnosis and we will head back out there this
Saturday. This last week has been one of whirlwind activity, very steep
learning curves, challenging decisions, roller coaster emotions, and a
stretching of faith. Now the reality of the surgery, it's procedure, risks,
hoped for benefits, recovery and unknown future are before us all. It also
brings to bear the reality that Jesus is Lord even over brain surgery.
I humbly ask our PMCA families to join us in prayer for Susan, her
husband Ben, their 3 children, and the new baby she carries. Please pray that
the tumor is benign and that Baby weathers the surgery well. Now that all
surgical preparations are complete, the family is seeking to enjoy a couple of days
of family time before their lives gets turned upside down for a
while.
Thank you for your prayers and caring expressions. I will seek to
keep you all updated as things get more specific. If you are interested, you
could check their website for updates www.benandsusiethomas.com
Praise
be to God.
Town
Hall Meeting
The PMCA
Board of
Trustees is holding a Town
Hall Meeting on Thursday, February 23 for
the purpose of presenting a status
update on
the current "State of the Academy." Topics will include:
- Current
initiatives
- The
road ahead
- Opportunities
for parents to assist
- Comments/questions
The
meeting will run from 7 pm until around 8:30 pm in the Hamel
Auditorium; light
refreshments will be served.
The
Board is eager to have participation from each school family.
Parents
are asked to email Michelle Orr or call her at
215.233.0782 ext. 404 no later
than Friday, February 17, to let us know how many plan to attend.
Worship Symposium
The
Calvin Institute of Christian Worship,
located on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, hosted its annual Worship
Symposium last week. Some of the presenters included N.T.
Wright,
John Bell, Walter Brueggmann and Sandra McCracken along with many
Calvin faculty and students. During this event, Christian high schools
from around the country were invited to attend to learn how to make the
worship/chapel time in their schools better.
PMCA
sophomores Faith Modricker
and Jenei Nock and Instrumental Music Teacher Melinda Krpata (pictured
above) were given the opportunity to attend and came away with many new
and exciting ideas of how to help our students live out the truth and
message of scripture, allowing it to give them purpose and meaning in
their everyday lives. The Symposium also gave everyone a time to
worship together with many Christians from different nations and races.
The focus of this year's Symposium was the Psalms and what they teach
us as well as how to effectively use the Psalter in worship. This was
an amazing learning experience for our staff and students.
Educational
Improvement Tax Credit
(EITC) Program
Multiple Choice
I want my state
taxes to:
A.
bail out mismanaged corporations
B.
provide a student with a scholarship to PMCA
If you own a
business, or
influence the tax decisions of your company, this real and very
powerful choice is yours to make.
By choosing A
(or doing nothing), you give the state your approval to
spend your money however they choose.
If you choose B,
you are requiring
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to financially support families
choosing Christian education.
When you
contribute to PMCA, your
company will receive a dollar-for-dollar credit against its state tax
bill up to $200,000 or 90%. The remaining 10% may be eligible for a
charitable deduction.
Still not sure?
We can assist
you! Just email PMCA parent Beth Goodman if you have questions
or click here
for an application.
