Instrumental music, choral music, painting, drawing, sculpting, and the theatre arts become venues for student expression and creativity. Our students don’t simply perform artistically; they learn the discipline and purpose of artistic expression. Conveying human emotion and feelings to others with a desire to reflect the God whom we serve is central to the fine arts program.

The Phil-Mont theatre arts department, recognized as one of the finest in the area, produces musicals and classical dramatic productions concluding its school year with a very popular Fine Arts Festival. Phil-Mont is committed to the arts, believing the students’ artistic expressions promote a well-rounded education.

The secondary school offers a diverse and exciting fine arts program that attracts the majority of our student body.

Fall musicals have showcased student talent in Aida, The Little Mermaid, Pirates of Penzance, Fiddler on the Roof, and Annie. Winter plays offer a range from challenging dramas including The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Flowers for Algernon, Animal Farm, The Hobbit, and 1984 to riotous comedies like The Matchmaker, Arsenic & Old Lace, and You Can’t Take it With You.

Students also shine by performing in Winter and Spring concerts for band, orchestra, and choirs and receiving high honors in seasonal art shows and competitions.

Springtime brings our Fine Arts Festival with student art shows, a themed Musical Extravaganza Review, special ensembles and choirs, and elaborately staged scenes from Shakespeare performed outside on a special hillside stage.

Other opportunities include Wednesday electives in Writing, Improv, Theater, Jazz Band, Hand Bells, and a monthly Literary Forum. Students also participate in creating a Literary Journal each year, full of poems, prose, and visual art.

The fine arts program at Phil-Mont cultivates the students’ relationship between academic excellence and artistic expression, while seeking to glorify God with all their gifts and talents.
