What is ART like at Phil-Mont?
Our teachers set classroom expectations and work through genres and art units depending on the students’ age and ability, from studying and recreating famous works of art in elementary school to building a themed portfolio for AP Studio Art and college credit in 12th grade.
Students in Middle and High School submit their best works for competition at the Carin Fine Arts Festival, and student work from the whole school is put on display during the Spring Fine Arts Festival. Students learn to work a variety of media and have opportunities in High school to partake in art-specific Wednesday elective classes like Photography or Figure Drawing.
- Elementary Art – 1 class/week (45 min.): Creation, art history, and genre studies.
- Middle School – 3 classes per week (43 min.): Principles of Design, plus Art Club (once per week).
- High School – 4 classes per week (47 min.): Basic Art, Drawing & Painting, Sculpture, Print Making, Graphic Design, Pre-AP, AP Studio Art, plus Wednesday Electives (like watercolor, photography, and clay)
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28
